Guide

My Comment: It's such a wonderful movie. Raju, the Guide, was destined to be a saint. Meanwhile, most people don't even bother when they face setbacks; they just see the illusion as reality and keep holding on to whatever is left, not realizing it will all disappear one day. The couple in the movie achieved huge success—they had everything a couple could desire, including money, love, and fame—yet it wasn't satisfying, which is why they were unhappy. Ultimately, Raju spoiled it all, proving that having everything still doesn't guarantee satisfaction. And then, a new journey begins....

AI Baba:

Guide (1965) is a classic Bollywood drama following Raju (Dev Anand), a charismatic tourist guide whose life unravels after he falls for Rosie (Waheeda Rehman), a dancer trapped in an unhappy marriage. Leaving his old life behind, Raju helps Rosie become a star, but his own descent into greed and crime leads to imprisonment, eventually finding redemption as a reluctant spiritual leader.

Key Plot Elements

The Meeting: Raju, a guide in Udaipur, meets Marco, a wealthy archaeologist, and his unhappy wife, Rosie. While Marco is obsessed with researching caves, Raju falls in love with Rosie, who is a passionate dancer but forbidden from dancing by her husband.

The Transformation: After Marco abandons Rosie, Raju supports her in pursuing her dream, and she becomes a successful dancer. This causes scandal, causing Raju's family and community to abandon him.

The Downfall: As Rosie rises to fame, Raju becomes greedy, controlling, and falls into bad habits, causing a rift in their relationship.

The Twist: Following a criminal conviction regarding a forgery to spite Marco, Raju is imprisoned.

Redemption: Upon release, a broken Raju finds refuge in an abandoned temple and is mistaken for a holy man (a "Mahatma") by the local villagers. He is forced into a fast to bring rain, transforming him from a flawed man into a saintly figure, leading to his eventual death.

The film is noted for its exploration of complex relationships and themes of love, freedom, and self-discovery. It is widely celebrated for its soundtrack and is a significant work in Indian cinema.
