My take on Satluj Movie
My Comment: It doesn't make any sense at all. The movie exposes the truth, and allowing it to be shown will bring the government more goodwill than a bad reputation. Moreover, it was released on July 3, 2026, and remained available for about 24 hours before being taken down. Because once it's released, many people download, record, and spread it, the movie will reach a wide audience even after the ban. It is better to let it release so the government avoids the blame of suppressing the truth.
About the Movie: Satluj (originally titled Ghallughara and later Punjab '95) is a 2026 biographical crime drama directed by Honey Trehan. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Arjun Rampal and is based on the life of historic Sikh human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. After a gruelling four-year censorship battle in India, the movie was quietly released uncut directly to streaming on ZEE5 on July 3, 2026. However, just 48 hours later on July 5, 2026, it was abruptly removed from ZEE5 in India due to government concerns that its contents could be "misused by anti-India forces." It remains available on ZEE5 Global for international audiences.
Plot Synopsis: Set in 1990s Punjab during the peak of the militancy era, the film follows bank manager turned activist Jaswant Singh Khalra as he investigates and exposes the illegal extrajudicial killings and mass secret cremations of thousands of unidentified individuals by the police. The narrative follows his dangerous crusade, subsequent abduction, and the following CBI investigation
